Fenosoa and Valérie, are a husband-and-wife team of self-taught illustrators hailing from the island country of Madagascar. Coming from an Engineering (Fenosoa) and a Marketing & Communications degree (Valerie), these 2 shared a similar passion for illustrating and pursued their dream of being illustrators. Fenosoa and Valérie want to be known as Owlfens. To explain, an owl in Madagascar is often associated with magic and witches and viewed negatively. Since both Fenosoa and Valérie decided to go against cultural norms and not utilize their degrees, as one perceives an owl in society. Fens comes from Fenosoa’s name, but I want to suggest that it can also come from the word, fence—a structure that protects their creativity to grow and flourish and keep away any societal negativity towards an uncommon profession of being an artist/illustrator, a creative. They are blessed to be in Madagascar, a place with rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. They take absolute joy when they can showcase, incorporate and inspire others of the simple beauty of island life. Fenosoa and Valérie both speak French, English and their native language, Malagasy. When not illustrating, they love to play boardgames, watch animated movies, and play with their cat Momo. Below are just some mockups of book covers to present. We hope that you will have real projects for them to showcase soon.
